How we verify your identity.
Before you can use Alwan Credit, we confirm who you are. It happens in the Alwan app with Didit, our identity-verification provider, and takes a few minutes.
Why we verify your identity
We need to know who our borrowers are. Verifying your identity keeps someone else from opening an account or borrowing in your name, and is part of how we prevent fraud and meet our legal duties as a lender. You verify once, when you open your account; we may occasionally ask you to verify again.
Identity verification only confirms who you are. It does not approve credit: whether you get a credit line, and its limit, is decided separately after you apply.
What happens
Sign up in the Alwan app
Enter your mobile number, type the code we send by SMS, and create your 6-digit PIN.
Fill in your profile
Your name, date of birth and address exactly as they appear on your ID, then read and accept the agreements.
Start verification
Tap Start verification. The app opens Didit, our identity-verification provider, in a secure screen.
Photograph your government ID
Follow Didit’s instructions to take a photo of a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID.
Take a selfie
Didit checks that a real person is present and that your face matches the photo on your ID.
Get your result
You return to the app, which shows your status. When Didit approves the check, your account opens automatically.
What your status means
- In progress
- You have started the check but not finished it. Open the app to continue.
- In review
- Didit is having a person look at your check. You do not need to do anything; the app shows the result when it is ready.
- Verified
- Didit confirmed your identity and your account opens automatically. Verification does not approve credit: applying for a credit line is a separate step with its own review.
- Action needed
- Didit needs you to redo a step (for example a blurry ID photo), or the session expired. Start the check again from the app.
- Not verified
- Didit could not confirm your identity. You can try again from the app; there is no limit on attempts.
Tips for a smooth check
- Use a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID, for example a passport, a driver’s license, a UMID or a PhilSys National ID. Didit’s screen tells you which documents it can read.
- Take photos in good light, with no glare, and with all four corners of the ID visible.
- For the selfie, face the camera directly and remove sunglasses, hats and face coverings.
- Make sure the name and date of birth in your profile match your ID exactly.
- Use a stable internet connection and keep the app open until you return from Didit.
If we ask for more
After your account opens, we may ask you for one more document, for example a second government ID, a proof of address, a proof of income, a selfie holding your ID, or proof that a payout account is yours. The request appears in the Alwan app with a message that says what is needed; upload the document there. We may also ask you to repeat the Didit check, for example when your ID has expired.
If you cannot finish
- If the check was interrupted or expired, open the app and start it again.
- If Didit could not verify you, read the tips above and try again; there is no limit on attempts.

Your privacy
Didit processes your ID photo and selfie to perform the check, and sends us the result. How your identity data is used, shared and kept is explained in our Identity Verification (KYC) notice and Privacy Notice.
This guide describes the steps in the current Alwan app. The screens you see in the app and in Didit are the authority if they differ.
Start verification only from the Alwan app.
Alwan staff will never ask you to send photos of your ID or a selfie by chat, e-mail or social media, to do the check for you, or to skip Didit’s secure screen. Never share your PIN or one-time codes.
